i thought that was his whole thing. i also find it disturbing when they ask them stuff like 'name 2 countries in north america' and they answer:
"isn't north america a country?"
This actually does *not* suprise me at all. There have been many movements over the years to "dumb down" what people are taught by reducing the number
of "things" that exist. Things like:
"There are only three (or four) continents."
"There is only one ocean."
"There are only four Great Lakes."
"There are only 8 planets."
Etc.
Someone who was taught in a "dumb down" system would probably believe that "North America" refers to the northern USA instead of the continent.
