I have found that when calling Xfinity for tech support, if I say

    "Terminate My Account"

I get a human on the line real quick.

    Cute but not related.

    xxcarol

I think it's time to move to AT&T Fiber, if anything for symmetric
    service (I'm 600/10 here).

Unfortunately, for me, Xfinity is the only hi-speed internet available in my county which I suppose is another reason they're so unreasonable here.

But in the last 6 months someone has been laying fiber in my neighborhood... Someone told me it was ShenTel but that night not be correct. It will still be good to have competition...

what sucks is where i'm at, all that line is laid. BUT, there's agreements that the different providers have about territory. So i can't switch in most cases.

I thought division of territory by competitors would be illegal under antitrust laws?

it would seem they're allowed to get away with it from a practical standpoint .. running two sets of coax cabling everywhere would be crazy, DSL piggybacks on the phone system but it's still entirely local and single-provider (even if in your area multiple companies are allowed to re-sell it).. afaik fiber is pretty much end-to-end to.. can't really just say "hey, run the fiber from my house over to a different isp" .. fiber sits in an price bracket where it's
almost too expensive to offer so you're probably lucky if you have one in the first place..

it's only illegal if you get caught.

I've heard nightmares from people who tried to resell DSL on copper
from the local exchange carrier. Since the local exchange carriers
were required to open their copper network by law but there wasn't much
oversight, they did everything in their power to cripple resellers
ability to sell DSL, while using the cost overhead to make their
services cost-competitive. I think everyone's given up by now.

I had resold DSL service for a couple of years through a savvy local
ISP. It was nice getting DSL service and having my ISP be the customer
of record. He knew which buttons to push, so to speak to get problems
    fixed.
