Rumouredly Apple is not going to call the next version of their
operating systems iOS 19 and iPadOS 19, and instead will start
referencing the year. Like some other sectors*, they will stupidly use
the *next* year rather than the year it is released ... so get ready to (perhaps) expect iOS 26 and iPadsOS 26 to be announced

Thanks to Your Name for bringing this name change to the fore...
It's interesting since Microsoft tried this tactic, but iOS is far simpler
to release than Windows is, so this new gimmick may work for Apple iOS.
*Apple to change the way it names operating systems*

"the update after the current iOS 18 will be iOS 26 rather than,
say, iOS 19. Other name changes will include iPadOS 26, macOS 26,
watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26"
Given how brilliant Apple marketing is, I suspect there's more to this name change than the obvious. But I'll have to dig up more facts to be sure.

* Car makers already use the same model date of the following year.
Magainze producers use a similar date of the following month / week.

iOS 26 could be launched at WWDC instead of iOS 19iOS 26 could

Apple could make a big change to the way it numbers its
operating systems, with a year-based system renaming iOS 19 as
iOS 26, and macOS in the same way.

Rather than pointlessly changing the OS numbering system, it would make slightly more sense to change the device numbering system to be the
year of actual release so it was easy to know how old an iPhone, iPad,
etc. are (especially since the installed OS version changes).
