• GitHub To Be Folded More Tightly Into Microsoft

The CEO of GitHub is stepping down, and won’t be directly replaced,
    according to <https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/08/github-will-be-folded-into-microsoft-proper-as-ceo-steps-down/>.
Instead the leadership will become more closely a part of Microsoft’s “CoreAI” division.

So the emphasis will be more on “AI” rather than “code repository”? Is there this assumption that software development is inevitably going to
become more AI-centric, even as perceptions of the quality of
AI-generated work go down? Do you see something wrong with this
    picture?

Definitely something wrong. I've been impressed with AI chatbots' ability to
answer questions and save me time refining Google searches. I've not been
impressed with AI integrated with the IDE. Main considerations for me are:

    - Will it remain free?
    - Will my private repos remain private?

As long as the changes don't disrupt how I use the service I suppose
Microsoft can do what they want with it.

Not likely. Those electricity bills need to be paid somehow. And the
more advanced the AI models become, the more the bills mount up.

But customers are reluctant to pay. So what to do? Find more sneaky
    ways of monetizing it <https://www.computerworld.com/article/4036568/the-dark-side-of-ai-monetization.html>.
