I don't know where else to ask this question and I hope someone here
    can offer some help, please.

Are all micro-SD cards the same?? I'm needing to update maps and
software on a Garmin device for my car. It says to insert an SD
card of which I don't have. One will have to be purchased, so I
want to make sure I'm getting the correct card. I'll need one of
at least 4 GB so any help will be greatly appreciated.

SD card or micro SD card?

Which device do you exactly have?

For SD cards, several standards exist - SD, SDHC, XDHC.

It is not clear what is wanted here. Do you need to puchase a blank card,
and somehow load the maps onto it?

Or (more likely) you are expected to purchase a preloaded card from the
    likes of Garmin?

Never mind, I found the answer to my question. It's a /Micro *SD*/
card for my Garmin and that was required to update maps on my
device. I might be mistaken, but I don't believe Garmin offers
preloaded maps. You must select *your* region or the entire lower
    48 states for those updates.
