So this is interesting. Just weeks after Google's campaign to promote
Android as being more secure than iPhone, the smartphone battle has
taken a sudden twist. The Israeli military has decided to ban Android
phones for senior officers, on security grounds.
The news was broken by Israel's Army Radio and picked up by The
Jerusalem Post. "Under the expected order, commanders from the rank of lieutenant colonel and above will be permitted to use only iPhones for official communications. The step is aimed at reducing the risk of
intrusions on senior officers' handsets, according to the report."

Hi badgolferman,
This conversation is only for adults.
That is, it's for people who can think beyond what they're told to think.
I'm going to be blunt because I've studied why corporations choose one platform or the other, which we've discussed ad infinitum in the past.
I. The Israeli IDF is standardizing on iPhones, while
II. The USA DOD is standardizing on the Pixel.
This is completely expected behavior for anyone who understands mobile devices, particularly someone like I am, who understands the ecosystems.
Every organization would like to standardize on one platform for reasons so obvious that I'd only need to repeat them for the Apple trolls. Not you.
A. It's EASIER for them to manage one platform, rather than two, and,
B. the iPhone is so brain dead of a device, it's easier to manage.
Yet, in our past discussions, many corporations standardize on one or the other, but where all corporations would prefer to manage one ecosystem.
Now, as to the "tone" of the "implication" of the "battle" you speak of...
First, I'll address what you call "the smartphone battle", which, let's
face it, is not a battle. In very many ways, the iPhone is less secure and
in some ways the Android is less secure. Neither is even close to secure.
Apple, as you are aware, is brilliant at marketing to morons, much like
Trump is, in fact, where idiots never bother to double check the facts.
But we know that the Israeli military (or any military), is not stupid.
So why did they standardize on the dumb-terminal platform in this case?
a. The iPhone is a dumb terminal (which is easier to manage)
b. The iPhone is brain dead (in terms of app functionality)
There is no doubt that the iPhone is "easier" for an administration to manage, simply because of obvious features only Apple trolls don't know.
1. The iPhone must log into servers to do anything useful, and,
2. The iPhone is designed so that it can't do much that is useful.
Even though the iOS kernel & webkit are penetrated constantly, those
features make it EASIER for any organization to manage Apple's ecosystem.
The article makes is very clear in fact that since the iPhone is a
brain-dead device, that very fact makes it much easier for the IDF.
We've discussed this many times in the past, so this is nothing new.
i. The IDF wants to standardize to simplify security controls and updates
ii. The IDF wants as little functionality as possible on those phones
What the IDF wants the phone to do is phone calls & messaging.
Even an iPhone can do that.
Nobody whispers in my ear, but I suspect the IDF has also penetrated the dumb-terminal connections to the iPhone, but the IDF likely penetrated the Pixel connections also, although the Pixel works just fine without the mothership account that is required on the iPhone just to work normally.
By way of contrast, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) approved Pixel & Galaxy phones because they achieved DoDIN APL certification, proving they meet strict military-grade security, reliability, and compliance standards.
