You just gotta love Randy. He doesn't stop.
After getting himself and his game in hot water with the fans for
suggesting it should sell for $80, he's now claiming "I think they
could charge $200" for Borderlands 4.* Not that he's saying it will go
for that price, just that it could because, you know, it's such an
exciting and innovative game and not a third sequel in an increasingly
tired franchise and a follow-up to a flop of a movie.
It's not the statement itself that is really the problem, of course.
On the face of it, it's just Randy saying, "Hey, I think this game is
really great and you're getting good value when you buy it". But it
reminds everybody of his earlier misstep, which is really the last
thing you'd want to do.
Of course, Strauss Zelnick, Randy's boss and chief exec at Take Two,
has basically blessed Randy's outbursts. "I love his big personality", >Strauss reportedly said in June.** So why should Randy keep his mouth
shut? Sure it might cost Take Two some sales, but Randy won't be
losing his job (or bonus) over it. Those sort of consequences are only
for the little people.
