• Surprise! No Suprise; Valve is (probably) working on a Steam Deck 2

I mean, we probably all assumed this was the case anyway, and it's not
like the website reporting on the issue* is offering any reliable
information about it either. The reporting is up there with stories
telling us Valve is working on "Half Life 3"** and it will come out
eventually. Well, yeah, we all sort of knew that already. But Valve
_working_ on something doesn't actually mean we'll ever _see_ it.
Abandoned projects are a dime-a-dozen at Valve HQ.

Still, it does say something about the success of the handheld gaming
PC form-factor that Valve pioneered.*** Were it a complete flop (like,
say, the SteamLink devices Valve was flogging a decade ago) I doubt
we'd be hearing anything about potential successors. Projects get
started at Valve because people have interest in them and can convince
enough of their co-workers to join them in pushing the project
forward. Flops never gain that sort of traction.

And it's not as if the story**** is _completely_ devoid of
information; for example, the device is potentially going to use the
AMD Zen 6-based “Magnus” APU system, and at least some at Valve are
considering making it an entire stand-alone console, even more akin to
the Nintendo Switch. The choice of chipset -which is rumored to be the
same as what both Sony and Microsoft are considering for their own
next-gen consoles, is likely no coincidence either; it eases ports
    between the different platforms.

Myself, as I've said often, I've little interest in the device. "I
like big boxes and I cannot lie", and I'm going to stick with tower
PCs for as long as the industry will let me. But this new form factor
is becoming increasingly popular, and I'm happy to see the PC platform
doing what it can to stay ahead of the console crowd.

I would love to see a Steam Controller 2 with the steam deck layout,
instant sell for me if they would bring it!
As for the Steam Deck 2, it is to be expected, Valve always said when
the hardware is fast enough that an update can be justified they will
bring it out, so the article just is stating the obvious!
