Looks like the news server I switched to while eternal september was
down for a long time is gone. Their website isn't even found anymore.

    So back to eternal september.

I hate having to try to figure out what I read or not from the last year
    or two.

Yeah, there seems to be issue with Usenet recently. Eternal September
was having problems a few days back, now I2PN2. Newsgrouper was
lagging behind over the weekend (although I think they use Eternal
September, so that tracks), and NARKIVE hasn't been updated since late
    June.

I can hardly blame the providers for pulling up stakes --hosting a
Usenet has got to be one of the more thankless jobs on the Internet
these days-- but it's sad to see the pool of servers grow ever
smaller. The few that remain are almost all commercial operations, and
most of them revolve around binaries rather than the text groups.

Looks like i2pn2 stopped responding after July 21st sometime just
after 10:05am UTC*. Well, maybe we can hope the cleaning staff just
unplugged the server and everybody else was on vacation? ;-)

Very sad, ES responds noticeably much slower to requests than i2pn2 did.
I'm not going to bother looking around more at the moment though. I
just hope they come back, but my guestimation is about 2% of that
happening since their website is gone too.

The whois shows their domain is still up at least.

Damn. Today I can say Usenet is literally dying. :(

Rest well Retroguy, may the trolls never reach you where you are now.
