I'm actually of mixed opinions on this one.

On the one hand, yeah, it's EuroTruck Simulator 2 and it's another
map... and the recent expansions by the developers have all been
great. They've really honed their craft when it comes to building maps
that look good and are fun to drive.

    But on the other hand...

I use the fan-made ProMods map-pack* to add some extra detail and
scope to the base map. Not only does it add a lot of extra cities and
roads to the core European map, but it also adds area outside Europe
that haven't been covered by SCS yet. Places like Kazakhstan or
    Crete... or Iceland.

And it's the last that makes me hesitant about the "Fire & Ice!"
expansion because the ProMods rendition of Iceland is _really_ good.
Not only is it pretty, but they've added snow and ice effects, which
changes the driving mechanics somewhat. There are also some really
nifty and fun Easter eggs (including an impressively large underground
portion reflecting the journeys of Prof. Lidenbrock beneath the
Icelandic volcano Snæfellsjökull (from Jules Verne's "Journey to the
    Center of the Earth").

I'm sure the new, official map of Iceland will be quite good... but I
also have little doubt that it won't have as many locations to visit,
will lack the cheeky charm of the fan map, and (as confirmed by the
developers) won't have snow. I love ETS2, but the constant sunny
greenness gets a bit tiresome. I LIKED being able to visit Iceland and
enjoying a bit of winter-wonderland (even if, realistically, there
wouldn't be snow there during that time of year).

Oh, in the end I'll get the new expansion, of course. But I'll miss
the fan-made version. I only hope the ProMods team adds back in all
the stuff I liked so much sooner rather than later.

As much as I love the mod, I should note it can be quite problematic
to actually use. Not so much because of the mod itself*, but because
SCS updates the core game so often. With every official update the mod
itself needs to be updated too. This is because the official updates
change the base map, and the ProMods modifies THAT. Furthermore, since
the mod is so large, it can take several months before it becomes
available... usually just in time for SCS to release another official
update and the whole cycle begins again.

The end result is that, if you use ProMods, you're probably going to
be eternally one version behind the official game (you can tell Steam
to keep you on a compatible version). This isn't a problem if you're
just playing the game and only using ProMods, but if you use other
mods (or the latest DLC) which expect the newer version, you may run
    into problems.

It's just something to keep in mind before you use ProMods. You may
have to sacrifice other mods (maybe, not all mods are as version
sensitive), and you probably won't be able to play new map-expansion
DLC on day one. If you can live with those restrictions, I heartily
recommend ProMods with ETS2 (in fact, I can't imagine playing the game
without it anymore). But it does come with the above restriction.

    * although they could streamline the installation a bit; there are
something like 20 mod files that need to be individually added to the mod-installer list, and all in a specific order. (although it is
possible that's a restriction of the core game and not something the
    modders can do anything about)

The next Half Life (should it ever exist) probably won't even have a
number; they'll just reset the counter, like "Doom" (the 2016 game) or
    "Star Trek" (the 2009 movie).

Although I'd love if they did a "Leisure Suit Larry" and just jump to
    "Half Life 4".

I feel like they would if they ever DID release a new Half-Life, just to
    keep the joke alive.
