Buying a game I already owned elsewhere? I can't imagine ever doing
something so foolish. Never happened to me, nosirree, nope, never! You
can trust me on that! ;-) ;-)
I don't remember the original "Shadowman" all that fondly, although I
can't recall entirely why I disliked it. I think it was a combination
of poor controls, coupled with a lot of annoying melee combat, wrapped
up in intriguing-looking but annoying-to-play-through level design. It
felt like a poor man's copy of "Tomb Raider" (a series already long in
the tooth except with a "aren't we so edgy?" setting.
It probably didn't help that the game came out in an era filled with
similar looking games, ranging from the aforementioned Tomb Raiders,
the various Soul Reaver games, and more. While "Shadowman" undoubtedly
had its own style (although even that felt a bit ripped off from other
IPs, like Spawn), in terms of gameplay it felt quite generic.
These days I might be a bit more forgiving. But back in 1999, I found
it tedious and boring.
