Somehow the American 'Black Friday' thing has become a worldwide
phenomenon. Oh goody, consumerism at its worst has spread its
tentacles across the globe.

But let's face it, we all love a good deal, and that's what Black
Friday promises. (It sometimes even follows through, although more
often its smoke-n-mirrors). So if you fell victim to its snares,
that's quite understandable.

So...did you? Did you buy anything (especially computer or game
related) on this most holy of American holidays?


Myself, I did buy something... although it was almost accidental.
There was a new expansion for the truck sim game, and that's an
instant buy for me. That it happened on that particular day was beside
the case (it's not as if I got a discount any way). Otherwise, I made
it a point to avoid the stores --be they brick-n-mortar or digital--
out of dislike for the rampant consumerism.

I go out and shop. A couple of yrs ago I got a full refrigerator this yr

I bought points for the in-game store in an MMO that I am not
currently playing but I know I will be playing it again sooner or
later so why not I told myself. I got double points due to the Black
Friday deal they were having. That's it for me.

I wonder if these responses ("no") mostly reflect:
a) the average age of the newsgroup
b) the international tenor of the newsgroup (Black Friday
is worldwide now, but is by far most influential in
USAmerica)
c) economic issues
d) intelligence (?)
e) we're all either to greedy or too lazy to start
shopping for the holiday gifts ;-)

I mean, I'd _like_ to think it's becuase we're all too smart to fall
for the blatant and obvious marketing of the holiday, but I'm not sure
that's really the reason.

Not because it was black anything, but after the talk about cyberpunk
and it's dlc I decided to check it and it was on sale such that it cost
less with tax than the current balance in the steam wallet, so I bought
Phantom Liberty.

Not sure how it's supposed to trigger though, or in fact if it has
installed at all - kinda says it was, but mods I tried before that added weapons based on PL specific weapons (and non PL ones,) still won't load
the PL stuff into the game via cet codes.

There was one game from my wishlisht that happened to be on sale, and I
needed one short game to play.

Other than games, I needed a dymo printer for labelling HDDs and power supplies, and it had a real sale. But no purchases for the sake of
purchasing.

I bought a bunch of stuff for Christmas, some stocking stuffers. No
computer games, I didn't even think to check my wishlists. I did buy
one card game for my daughter and I to try called Sleeping Queens as it
was on sale for about $3 and looked possibly fun and something she might
like.

I personally don't really buy stuff most of the time, so not really. My
family used to drag me along a lot when I was little, though.

Has it ever. And on this side of the pond, it's no longer Black
Friday. It went from Black Friday to Black Weekend to Black Week to
Black Month. Sigh. Not sure about the last actually, maybe it's just
Black Week. Certainly in these northern latitudes days are short this
time of year and November is mostly black.

Oh, I bought some workout pants and lifting straps. The pants were even
on sale and cost maybe half of what I paid for the same thing some years
ago. So seems like a deal but then again, everyone knows what it really
costs to make clothing in the really cheap countries.
