• It's Been A Busy Year For Video Games - 2025 Edition

Last year, it was reported that 19,000 new games were added to the
Steam marketplace. This year, that number is slightly down* --only
18,000-- although the report _is_ a month earlier, so that may explain
    some of the deficit.

And like last year, the vast, vast, _vast_ majority of those games are
titles you've never heard of and likely never will. More than half of
them have less than ten reviews (2000 of them haven't received any
reviews at all). Another report that 40% of games failed to earn
enough to recover the $100 fee Steam charges to list a game.**

Honestly, I could do with a lot less games being released... not only
onto Steam, but overall. Just because you created it doesn't mean you
have to share it, and certainly doesn't entitle you to getting paid
for it. But the lure of quick money has flooded the games marketplace
with a lot of terrible titles. It makes the days of shovelware-CD
    games look quaint in comparison.
