• USB write cache

    On a Windows 10 system, I have 2 identical 4GB Toshiba drives.

    One is in a USB 3 port and one is in a USB 2 port.

    In Device Manager their names are the same, but under "Policies" one
    drive has either/or check marks for "Quick Removal" or "Better
    Performance" and the other has a single check box for "Enable write
    caching" which I was surprised to find checked.

    Does that make any sense?

    Are either of them inside an enclosure? It would be quite unusual for a
    hard drive to have a USB port, but it's not impossible. I've only seen a
    few examples of that.

    More typically, the enclosure will house a SATA drive and a small PCB,
    and the PCB has a USB port to connect to the PC. In that scenario, it's primarily the firmware on the PCB that gets identified by the PC. If you
    were to remove the drives from their enclosures and connect them
    directly to a couple of SATA ports, they might indeed get identified identically.
