    My godness and wow!

    I left usenet about 20 years ago. On my 'new' Macintosh 68040's and iMac
    G3 I wanted to get back that good oldretro feeling of using computers.

    I *never* thought I would also get back the 25+ years old trolls and
    really boring over-zealous bashing. Back then it was "M$ versus Apple",
    "Amiga versus Atari" and even 'Windows versus OS/2".

    Very comforting to see these sad types still around. Very retro.

    Keep up the boring and pointless discussions, folks!

    What high tech is Apple actually good at?

    Note: I'm sure the Apple trolls will mention CPUs, but it turns out
    Apple is no good at CPU development (and Apple even stopped making
    GPUs). The reason Apple makes their own iPhone CPU is for purely >>marketing reasons.

    How about trackers and ear buds? The Apple branded ones are pretty
    good.

    Hi badgolferman,

    Thank you for bringing up bluetooth trackers and ear buds, as I am
    struggling to find even a single high-tech technology Apple pioneered.

    In general, all Apple usually does is copy other people's technology, where Apple excels at marketing that technology even as they're lousy at R&D.

    However, maybe I'm wrong?
    I'd *love* to be wrong, by the way.

    Seriously.
    If I'm wrong, I'll learn something.

    Hence...

    We can carry on a normal conversation about Apple products, where you bring up a good point that Apple does push their name-brand trackers & ear buds.

    Being an Amazon Vine customer, I get all the non-Apple bluetooth ear buds, ear phones (bone & air conduction) & headphones I could ask for, where I'm sure the Apple-branded earphones are good - I just have never tested them.

    Looking it up, how does this summarize the ear buds situation at Apple?
    1. AirPods (regular): The most basic and affordable model.
    <https://www.apple.com/airpods/>
    2. AirPods Pro: Adds noise cancellation and transparency mode.
    <https://www.apple.com/airpods-pro/>
    3. AirPods Max: Over-ear HiFi headphones with noise cancellation.
    <https://www.apple.com/airpods-max/>

    Looking up who pioneered the technology, apparently French engineer
    Ernest Mercadier patented a set of in-ear headphones in 1891, so, using the sophomoric argument Alan Browne & nospam often used, just because the technology has been working for over a hundred years, for that reason
    alone, Apple should get rid of them (which is hilariously their argument on the aux jack).

    Anyway, a quick search shows Apple was the 4th company to release them:
    a. Bragi: Released their first true wireless earbuds in late 2015.
    b. Earin: Released its first true wireless earbuds in October 2015.
    c. Onkyo: Released the W800BT true wireless earbuds in 2015.
    d. Apple released the first generation of AirPods in December 2016.

    So Apple did NOT release the 1st modern earbuds, Bragi did, with the Dash.
    <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bragi_(company)>

    I grant you that Apple being only a year behind in high tech is pretty good for Apple, since on integrated modems, for example, Apple is a decade
    behind - where I've always predicted Apple would never be able to catch up.

    But let's look at the trackers next, as, well, I've never used them and I don't even know if they're on Amazon Vine (https://amazon.com/vine/about).

    A. The first Tile trackers were delivered in 2013.
    B: The first Chipolo trackers were delivered in 2013.
    C. Apple AirTags were first released on April 30, 2021.

    While Apple was behind in tracker technology, what Apple did was leverage
    the extensive "Find My" network, which provides a significant advantage in terms of tracking capabilities and range.

    In summary, while you bring up a good point that maybe Apple did pioneer something recently that can be considered high technology, it seems Apple
    was a year behind much smaller companies on bluetooth air buds and a whoppingly huge 8 years behind in introducing the bluetooth trackers.

    Having said that, I'm not comparing which are better, as that would be like comparing Apple Maps to Google Maps, where which being better depends on a lot of other factors - but clearly Google was way ahead of Apple and just
    as clearly, all Apple could do was copy what Google had already done.

    The question remains valid if there is *anything* recent that Apple has pioneered that can be considered high technology (and no, those bold new colors and exciting emojii do not count). :)

    I've been on all the computer OS newsgroups for decades, where what you
    speak about with the Apple trolls (such as Snit, Rod Speed, Alan Baker, et
    al.) only happens on the Apple operating system newsgroups.

    So you're correct in ascertaining that by a huge margin, Apple posters are quite different than normal people when it comes to defending Apple
    propaganda to the death, no matter what.

    The Apple trolls is a herd animal to the core, so they can't countenance
    even a single negative thought ever stated about their religious idol.

    Which explains why, only on the Apple newsgroups, does the childish
    behavior you decry occur due solely to the presence of Apple trolls.

    Like you are.
