Hi all,

I was just wondering if you know any interesting websites that are
accessible with a vintage browser?

The only ones I know of:

- system7today.com
- 68k.news
- frogfind.com

(Though at the moment 68k/frogfind is down, I think?)

I am aware of ProtoWeb but I like original creations with up-to-date-ish content compared to resurrections of archived stuff =)

I think MacintoshGarden.org should work okay in old web browsers.

Those are good ones (I'm a bit partial since I run System 7 Today)

macintosh.garden (yes, that's the URL for the new public beta)
cornica.org
cheats.macintosh.garden

Have you tried Gopher, btw?
It's much more suited for older machines compared to the WWW.

wiby.org is a search engine for the uncommercial web aka the web 25 years ago. Make sure to follow the "settings" link first and check the "Filter HTTPS" to get only sites accessible via http as result. Happy exploring :-)

By the way, do you happen to be the Atesh who used to frequent Mac Domain around
the mid 2000s? If yes, you've just made my day!

My own website <http://www.poppyrecords.co.uk> works on most browsers
and was written with Claris Homepage in OS 8.6 Others I have written include:

(Some of these use PHP to generate diary lists.)

I use to run several other websites but one-by-one they have been taken
off me and "Improved" so they no longer work on older browsers (or any
browsers at all, in one case.).

Thanks for the links, especially that "and the internet" one, I have just
gone and got some new bookmarks from it! :)

I have used Gopher on Macintosh before, about a decade ago, but I think I
will put that top of my list for things to do on this computer.

Here, using the wiby search engine, I just found http://www.inthe90s.com/index.shtml and that is exactly my jam! Web 1.0!

Liz, those are very nice websites! Information-dense yet visually appealling and
displaying fine in almost every browser no matter the age. A true achievement in
compatibility!

I couldn't help but submit their URLs for indexing on wiby.org after I discovered they aren't listed there yet. Perhaps a few more visitors will come out of that. Your von Manstein's trial record is amazing btw. Never thought such
a thing existed as a record!

A true achievement in compatibility!

One basic rule is: "Don't Use Javascript".

If you start including Javascript and trying to micro-manage the layout,
you are bound to come across browsers that can't read that particular
flavour. Almost all of the functions of an information-only website
can be done in plain HTML with some PHP on the server ...and there are
ways around those that can't.

For writing PHP I find BBEdit 4.1 does everything I need (in about 30 Mb
of memory) with Fetch 3.0.3 for uploading it.
